A German architecture firm is opening its first United States office in Tampa and is in the process of hiring 30 new employees to run it. The firm is JSWD and is based in Cologne. It has a second office in Berlin. Its new 2,960-square-foot office in Tampa will be in a former storefront at 8401 N. Dale Mabry Highway, off Waters Avenue and just outside the city鈥檚 Carrollwood neighborhood. The space was previously occupied by Sorrento Sweets, a local Italian bakery. The firm is scheduled to open next week in the space.

Heiress Gallery is pleased to announce, A Symphony and a Score (HOW TO WATCH A SOLAR ECLIPSE), a two-day, open-call exhibition (Friday April 5th and Saturday, April 6th) hosted by artist Jason Lazarus, in collaboration with the gallery, to prepare for and celebrate the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024.

Associate Professor Noelle Mason's work featured in Oxford American Magazine

Ground Control is a series of wool tapestries ranging from eight to twelve feet tall that depict satellite images of the U.S./Mexico border at current and historical places of conflict. The electromagnetic images used in this project are collected by U.S. government satellites used for 鈥渞emote sensing鈥 of the earth鈥檚 surface. Unlike photography that attempts to mimic the function of the eye, remote sensing collects data and constructs images through a process antimemetic to human experience.

New Exhibition: Ezra Johnson, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing, at the Mindy Solomon Gallery

Mindy Solomon Gallery is pleased to present Sunday Morning Coming Down. Ezra Johnson鈥檚 fourth solo exhibition at the gallery. In this group of new paintings, Johnson has been inspired by what he calls the 鈥渢ropical noir鈥 atmosphere of Tampa, engaging with objects, spaces and scenes that are built up with many layers of oil paint, applied in sheets of color often showing the residue of earlier layers.

What if we saw the world from a 45-degree angle? This topsy-turvy premise united two shows 鈥淢ernet Larsen: Thinking About C茅zanne鈥 and 鈥淒iane Simpson: 1977鈥1980鈥 at James Cohan, New York (Simpson鈥檚 show is on view through March 23; Larsen鈥檚 closed on March 16), wherein sculptures (Simpson鈥檚) and paintings (Larsen鈥檚) playfully vacillate between two and three dimensions.

When Heather O鈥橪eary started attending concerts held by 皇家华人鈥檚 School of Music in 2021, she loved how the performances made her feel. As an anthropologist, she was moved and inspired by the ebb and flow of the music. She often wondered: could her own data touching on environmental impacts be turned into music that people could enjoy and understand?

Congratulations to Elizabeth Herrmann as a top-3 awardee for the 2022-23 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. This recognition is part of 皇家华人鈥檚 ongoing commitment to enhance undergraduate teaching by recognizing and rewarding excellence. It is an important focus of the university to ensure that the foundation courses of the undergraduate curriculum receive the proper emphasis in preparing students for work in the major, as well as providing the proper foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
