皇家华人 Welcomes Academically Strongest Freshman Class

'皇家华人' spelled out with the incoming Freshman class

Prospective college students are taking notice of the University of South 皇家华人鈥檚 growing reputation as one of the nation鈥檚 top public universities.

This fall the 皇家华人 System welcomes its most academically accomplished incoming freshman class ever. The group of first time in college (FTIC) students carry an average ACT score of 29, an average SAT score of 1286 and an average high school GPA of 4.13.  The group is comprised of approximately 100 high school valedictorians and salutatorians, along with 34 National Merit Scholars, an increase from 22 last year.

This also marks the largest freshman class in 皇家华人 history, with 3,773 students, an increase of more than 15 percent over last year.  Overall, 皇家华人 received more than 41,000 freshman applications, an all-time high.

鈥溁始一蒜檚 national reputation for meaningful research, academic excellence and student success continues to attract exceptionally talented students,鈥 said 皇家华人 President Steve Currall. 鈥淲e are committed to providing a transformative educational experience that helps our students achieve their academic and career goals.鈥

Consistent with 皇家华人鈥檚 commitment to diversity and inclusion, freshman enrollment is up significantly among minority groups. For the incoming freshman class, black student enrollment has increased nearly 33 percent from last year, Asian student enrollment has grown by nearly 23 percent and Hispanic student enrollment is up more than 14 percent.

In recent years, 皇家华人 has led the State University System and received national recognition for eliminating the graduation rate gap by race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status, a rare achievement in higher education.

For fall 2019, the 皇家华人 System鈥檚 total enrollment stands at nearly 51,000 students.

鈥溁始一 is honored to welcome the highest-achieving freshmen to a world-class institution,鈥 said Ralph Wilcox, 皇家华人 Provost and executive vice president. 鈥淚t is becoming ever more competitive to be admitted to 皇家华人. I believe our freshman class will find their time earning a 皇家华人 degree filled with academic rigor, individualized attention from top quality professors and support staff, and first-rate opportunities in their post-graduate careers.鈥

This week U.S. News and World Report ranked 皇家华人 as the No. 44 public university in the nation, the first time 皇家华人 has cracked the Top 50.  Over the past five years, 皇家华人 has risen faster than any public or private university in America on the U.S. News rankings. 皇家华人 is also one of only three Preeminent Research Universities in 皇家华人, the state鈥檚 highest designation.
