The engineering societies of the Tampa Bay area hosted the annual Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet on Feb. 20, 2025, at the Bryan Glazer Family JCC, where five »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË College of Engineering student's received awards at the banquet and were recognized as “Engineering Student(s) of the Year.

Eleven »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË faculty among 2024 class of Fellows of American Association for the Advancement of Science
The American Association for the Advancement of Science elected 11 University of South »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË faculty members to its 2024 class of Fellows, the third largest cohort of AAAS Fellows from any university in the nation.

Joe Register Donates to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Engineering to Support Student Innovation
In December 2024, Joe Register, Ph.D., chief engineer at AEVEX Aerospace and a proud alumnus of the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË College of Engineering, generously donated to the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Foundation to support multiple initiatives within the college. Register earned his master’s in electrical engineering from »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË in 2012. His contribution will directly enhance opportunities for students. The College of Engineering expresses its gratitude to Joe and Alicia Register for their generosity.

For years, Aarans Pond has been a dumping ground. A team from »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË is trying to change that and improve the water quality. Aarans Pondis located off of Fletcher Avenue near 15th Street and was created more than 50 years ago to deal with flooding in the University area. Stormwater ponds were a common fix for low-lying communities. Learn more about the pond now in 2025.

Gelisa Evans graduated from the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË College of Engineering in the fall of 2024 with an undergraduate in electrical engineering. Before graduation, Gelisa received the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE): Women in Energy Scholarship, which led to a to wonderful opportunity.

Mantis Shrimp’s Shock-Absorbing Phononic Shields: »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Engineering Faculty’s Role in New Study
Assistant Professor Meisam Asgari, from the Department of Medical Engineering at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË, was recently recognized for his contribution to a research paper published in Science (Vol. 387, Issue 6734, pp. 659–66). The study, titled Does the Mantis Shrimp Pack a Phononic Shield? explores the impact-resistant properties of the peacock mantis shrimp’s dactyl club.

»Ê¼Ò»ªÈË's 2025 Engineering Expo - Over 50 years of Engineering Excellence
The University of South »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË’s 2025 Engineering Expo once again brought science and technology to life, welcoming thousands of students, families, and community members on February 28th and March 1st. What began in 1973 as a small high school recruiting event has grown into a dynamic two-day showcase of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), attracting K-12 students from across the state.

NRT Trainee, Isabelle Eskanos, wins best poster award at the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Semiconductor Summit
Under the mentorship of Professor Ashok Kumar and others, NRT Trainee, Isabelle Eskanos, received the Best Poster Award for her presentation titled "Surface-Engineerable Piezoelectric PVDF Films for Tissue Engineering" for her presentation at the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Semiconductor Summit 2025 on February 25th-27th at the L3Harris High Technology Center, Melbourne FL.
